For most travellers to Cape Town, a day in the gorgeous Cape Winelands is well worth including in your touring schedule.  Just a short drive from Cape Town, you will find yourself meandering past hundreds of wineries set amidst tall mountains and well-tended vineyards.  The beautifully preserved Cape Dutch architecture of many homesteads and cellars adds to the unique charm of this, the heart of South Africa’s wine-producing industry.

During the morning of a private Cape Winelands Tour we can visit at least two selected boutique wine estates for wine tastings.  We can visit Stellenbosch, the second town to be established in the Cape by the Dutch, where you wander through the charming streets, take in the historic architecture and enjoy the shopping which ranges from the quaint and traditional to exclusive and interesting boutiques.   We can visit the Stellenbosch Village Museum, an outdoor collection of period homes dating back to the mid 17th Century.  From Stellenbosch we proceed higher into the mountains through to the picturesque Franschhoek Valley where your guide will have booked you into one of South Africa’s premier restaurants.  Franschhoek restaurants regularly feature in the best global reviews and competitions so it is not surprising that this historically French enclave has the reputation as the culinary center of South Africa.  After a decadent lunch we will make our way to a top Franschhoek wine estate for one more wine tasting before returning to Cape Town.

Apart from the abundance of wineries and restaurants to choose from there are many other places of interest that may be included in this tour which your guide will present to you. These include distilleries, breweries and art galleries. Family orientated activities could include visits to the Outreach Cheetah Project, Butterfly World, the chocolate factory (especially for children) and The Motor Museum.
